Stephen Ministry
Stephen Leader: Ruthie Riethmuller

Stephen Ministry is a ministry our church offers in which intensively trained and supervised lay persons, called Stephen Ministers, provide one-to-one high quality Christian care to individuals facing life challenges or difficulties.

A Stephen Minister provides Christian friendship and love, listening, encouragement, prayer and support.  Our care is open to members and non-members, alike.  Above all else, the Stephen Minister keeps the relationship highly confidential.  A Stephen Minister is not a counselor or a therapist, a problem-solver or a casual visitor.

Who may need Stephen Ministry care?  Someone experiencing:  hospitalization, chronic illness, the loss of a loved one, family frustrations and challenges, moving transitions, divorce, pregnancy/adoption/infertility, disability, terminal illness, job loss, financial setback, aging issues, faith issues, major life changes…and this just names a few!

In John 15:12, Jesus says, “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”  Loving and caring for one another is not just the pastor’s job-it’s something Jesus calls us all to do!  Stephen Ministry is a way in which people with special gifts for caring ministry put those gifts to use in an organized way, bringing Jesus’ love and care to those who need it.

“We are the caregiver, God is the curegiver!”

If you see someone who is downcast or struggling through difficult times and believe they might benefit from our Christian caring ministry, please tell them about Stephen Ministry and offer to contact Stephen Ministry leadership on their behalf.  (Please ask their permission to do so).   Feel free to get in touch with Stephen Leader Ruthie Riethmuller (412-487-3421 or mrdd1@comcast.net) or Pastor Dirk Lesnett at the church.
