What We Believe

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, trustworthy in guiding us for faith and life.

We believe that Jesus Christ, alone, is Lord and Savior.

We depend upon God’s grace alone through Jesus Christ for our salvation.

We believe the Holy Spirit is God with us, empowering us to work together in love for the glory of God.

Along with the Christian Church throughout the centuries we affirm The Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord.  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.  He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.  He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church*, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

*meaning the universal Christian church-all believers in Jesus Christ

The mission of Elfinwild Church is to …

Lift up the Good News of God’s grace for all in Jesus Christ.

Be Led by God’s Word and Holy Spirit.

Live out our faith by loving God and others.

Regarding Elfinwild’s connection with the PC(USA)...........

Our Congregation is part of the Presbyterian Church - United States of America PC(USA) denomination. In many respects, we, as individuals, and as a Congregation, are in agreement with what the PC(USA) and its leaders do and say. In other respects, there is disagreement. We take the view that the disagreement does not outweigh the good work and ministry which our Congregation can accomplish together as part of the PC(USA).

One of the foundational building blocks of our denomination is that “God alone is Lord of the conscience.” That means that no one, and not any General Assembly, or Presbytery, speaks for every Presbyterian. We are free to have different views and opinions as we wrestle with what God has said in His Word and through His Spirit in Scripture and other witnesses. Good, faithful and discerning Christian people will differ on such matters. No one is compelled to give up their right to have separate or contrary opinions. Jesus Christ is head of the Church and it is a privilege within our denomination to decide what is right according to His Word.

The reformed heritage of being Presbyterian is rich with the understanding of the sovereignty of God. We are unified in the belief that it is by the grace of God in Jesus Christ and his atoning death on the cross that we are saved, and not through our good works or any other means. We believe in eternal life through the hope of the resurrection and that Jesus is coming again!
